History Of Anzio Army Camp
Originally constructed in 1943 as a transit camp for United States Army anti-aircraft battalions, the camp was later taken over by Polish troops in 1946, with additional Polish troops arriving subsequently. After World War II, the camp was repurposed as a Polish civilian settlement and remained so until 1964. At that time, residents were relocated to a new estate located to the north.
In the early 1980s, the site was cleared, and in 1983, Anzio Camp was established as a training facility for the regular army, the Territorial Army, and scouts. After serving its purpose for over two decades, the camp was deemed surplus to requirements by the Ministry of Defence, and it was finally closed in 2004.
