History Of Caythorpe Court

Caythorpe Court is a former hunting lodge situated in Caythorpe, Lincolnshire, England. The building is a Grade II* listed property that was originally constructed in 1901 for Edgar Lubbock, a brewer and banker. The lodge was designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield. In 1946, it became the Kesteven Agricultural College and was later renamed the Lincolnshire College of Agriculture and Horticulture from September 1980. Subsequently, the college was renamed the De Montfort School of Agriculture, but the site was closed in 2002. The property was later sold to property developers who wanted to house asylum seekers there.

Before the lodge was built, the site used to be a farm owned by the local church and farmed by the parson. Edgar Lubbock acquired the farm in the 1890s. In 1899, he commissioned Sir Reginald Blomfield to design a hunting lodge in the farm's grounds. The lodge was constructed between 1901 and 1903, and a stable for fifty horses was also built during the process. Lubbock was appointed as Master of the Blankney Hunt in 1904. Initially, the lodge was called "Mansion House," but by 1904, it had been renamed "Caythorpe Court." The original gardens were also designed by Blomfield.
