This vast and eerie building in Peterborough is known to be one of the most haunted locations in the area. It is said to be home to at least eight spirits, with countless reports of strange and unexplained happenings over the years. Originally a hospital, the building was converted into a museum in 1931. Among the spirits said to reside here is a soldier named Thomas, who has been seen as a full apparition near the staircase. Our team of spiritual mediums is particularly drawn to this location, as we believe there is a young girl spirit desperately seeking attention. Poltergeist activity is also common here. Join us as we explore the hidden cellars, former operating room, and three levels of secret spaces, including five dark and eerie rooms.

History of Peterborough Museum

The museum site has a rich history, with the first house dating back to the 16th century. It was a mansion built for the Orme family, who received land from King Henry VIII in 1536. The Tudor building called Neville Place was the first structure on the site, and its remains can still be seen in the Priest Gate Vaults. These historic cellars also hold stories of ghosts from the past. The current building's core was established in 1816 when it became the residence of Thomas Cooke, a local magistrate, and his first wife, Judith. Legend has it that Cooke would pass judgment on people even during breakfast. If someone found not guilty, they would be sent away with a pint of beer. It was said that if they hadn't been drunk and disorderly before, they would be by the time they left. Peterborough Museum boasts an impressive collection of over 227,000 objects, including local archaeology, social history, and significant marine fossil remains from the Jurassic period. The museum is also home to the original manuscripts of John Clare, known as the "Northamptonshire Peasant Poet," and the Norman Cross collection, which features items crafted by French prisoners of war. Norman Cross was the world's first purpose-built prisoner-of-war camp, where these prisoners were held from 1797 to 1814.
