Borwick Hall, originally fortified with wood, underwent significant changes in the late fourteenth century. A stone Pele tower was constructed to provide protection against marauding Scots, ensuring the safety of both the residents and their livestock. However, it was during the sixteenth century that the Bindloss family, renowned Kendal clothiers, extended the Hall. This wealthy dynasty added a remarkable gatehouse and an adjacent stable block specifically designed for pack-horses, which were responsible for transporting Kendal cloth to London. Sir Robert Bindloss, a prominent figure in the family, achieved great success at a young age, becoming a Member of Parliament for Lancaster at just sixteen years old. His immense wealth earned him the reputation of being "as rich as Sir Robert in the North." Although officially supporting Parliament during the Civil War, Sir Robert seemed to harbour Royalist sympathies. Notably, in 1651, Borwick Hall provided refuge to the future Charles the Second after his defeat at the Battle of Carlisle. According to local tradition, it was during this time that a young local woman had a liaison with His Majesty, resulting in one of his many illegitimate children.

The gatehouse of Borwick Hall bears a datestone inscribed with the year 1650, along with the initials of Robert Bindloss and his wife. This is a testament to the Bindloss family's influence and significant contributions to the Hall's expansion. Additionally, the village green is adorned with giant limestone blocks, marking the foundations of a chapel where Dr Richard Sherlock, a former chaplain to Royalist troops, fearlessly preached Catholic sermons during the 1650s. His sermons were considered dangerously unfashionable at the time. Dr. Sherlock engaged in heated debates with Richard Hubberthorne, a prominent Yealand Quaker. Furthermore, George Fox, the founder of the Quaker movement, expressed his grievances against armed men from Borwick Hall who attempted to disrupt one of his meetings. These clashes between different religious factions highlight the complex dynamics and tensions within the community during this period.

In the Jacobite rebellion of 1715, Ralph Standish, a resident of Borwick Hall, actively supported the Catholic and Stuart causes. Unfortunately, his allegiance led to his capture during the Battle of Preston, where the rebellion was ultimately crushed. Despite these historical events, Borwick Hall gradually faded into the background of national affairs. The arrival of the Lancaster Canal in the 1790s and the subsequent introduction of the railway.
