Castle Street Gaol Ghost Hunt Saturday 29/6/2024
This historic building has seen its fair share of dramatic events, and many notorious criminals have been housed within its walls. Originally built in 1876 as a police station, the building has been unoccupied since 2004. Despite its disuse, it has been given a Grade II listed status, and recently, it was purchased and restored by its new owners for £500,000. The owners are planning to convert various sections of the building into a museum. Visitors will be able to witness the original courtroom and cells, including the wooden dock and public gallery. The main courtroom is situated above six cells, some of which still have the original beds bolted to the walls. All of the cells' doors and windows remain in their original condition, and the museum-goers can also explore the incident room, which was once used by the police to develop photographic evidence. The facility also includes eight garages, stables, and outdoor toilet facilities.
